LAMPA HOLDINGS Pty Ltd is a Canberra based company that specialises in the importing and sale of the Chinese NANCHANG CJ-6 ex military trainer aircraft.

Lampa was the first company in Australia to import these aircraft into the Southern Hemisphere by its importation in 1990 of three of these aircraft into Australia. At the time, very little was known in the aviation industry about the Nanchang as, until a few years previously, China was a veritable “closed shop”, particularly as far as their aviation industry was concerned.

These first three CJ-6 aircraft were the subject of extensive overhaul in the workshops of the People’s Liberation Army Air Force (PLAAF) before dispatch to us in Australia. We, therefore, received sound, well maintained aircraft that required only re-assembly and some work to “Westernise” them to suit the requirements applicable to ex-military aircraft at that time.

This process was relatively simple and the aircraft were placed on the Australian Civil Register in a very short time frame. The three aircraft were registered VH-NNA, NNB and NNC respectively and introduced to the local aviation industry over the ensuing years.

Two of these aircraft, NNB and NNC are still operating in Australia and the third, NNA, was exported (ferried) to New Zealand where it is still being flown by its owner.

Since 1990 Lampa has imported over forty CJ-6 aircraft into Australia, New Zealand, USA and South Africa. As a result we have gathered a vast amount of experience in operating and maintaining the type and a thorough knowledge of the aircraft and its systems.

The popularity of the Nanchang is increasing as warbird enthusiasts see the advantages that ownership of a Nanchang can provide, these being a sensible acquisition cost and relatively inexpensive ongoing operating and maintenance costs. This has been the reason the Nanchang is one of the truly affordable warbirds available today with over thirty on the Australian register at present.

Lampa aims to procure a continual supply of good, used ex-military aircraft for import to Australia after overhaul in China. As the acquisition and overhaul process is relatively lengthy, we try to have a buffer stock of aircraft held at our hangar facility in Moruya NSW where they are re-assembled and prepared for sale. It is our ain to always have an aircraft available for immediate deliver, or if this is not possible, an aircraft available for inspection during the preparation stage.

In addition, we hold stocks of spare overhauled zero time engines, new and overhauled propellers, tyres and tubes and a range of consumable spares for ongoing support of the aircraft. Spares outside this holding are available from both China and the USA. It should be noted here that the Nanchang remains in production and is still the current trainer in the PLAAF.

Lampa's policy of holding stocks of aircraft in Australia precludes the necessity for the purchase of a Nanchang from overseas on a "sight unseen" basis, this fact accounting for the fact that Lampa is Australias leading Nanchang supplier.

Lampa's admin office is located in Canberra where we hold a Nanchange that is always available for demonstration purposes for anyone interested in the purchase of an aircraft. In addition to sales we offer conversion type training for pilots wishing to gain familiarisation with the Nanchang. Such training is available either in Canberra or Moruya.
